ABOUT ME!

Growing up in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, I often wondered what was wrong with me. I often referred to my undiagnosed mental illness as, "suffering in silence." It would be years before I actually saw a professional for help. At seventeen years old, my interests revolved around professional wrestling, as it provided a distraction from my day-to-day life. Since I wasn’t really known for my athletic achievements, I took an acting class and immediately caught the bug. I desperately needed this outlet to escape the reality of how my brain worked, and I found it on stage and in film. Writing soon followed as I wanted to expand my horizons as an artist. Fast forward to a degree in theatre and film from Hunter College and further training from HB studios. I had the pleasure of working with various industry coaches, including Vincent Pastore from The Sopranos. If it’s not clear, I am the most grateful man alive to be a professional New York-based actor and writer.

Beyond my stage name, Matthew Cade in SAG-AFTRA and The Dramatists Guild Of America, I was born Matthew Jacobs, a Jewish guy who married my best friend, the most positive Puerto Rican in our universe, who has become the voice of reason in my head. We settled down in our small house in the middle of nowhere at the end of Gerritsen Beach. What will always be our greatest gift to this world is our son, a tech wiz with a heart of gold who has a hidden knack for finding popcorn vendors everywhere in Brooklyn. Tagging along is our lively Beagle Abby, who sometimes decides to stop and sleep next to complete strangers in the park. I’m so grateful for my family, who have saved me in so many ways, and I realize my voice can’t be as honest if I don’t visit this feeling of absolute pure love in my work.

Thanks for checking out my work. As I continue to challenge myself as an artist what I always loved about this business was the feeling that anything can happen at any time or place. I am thrilled to just be alive, and grateful that the next role I find can be my greatest one yet.
